For many years, I took a hiatus from the DJ industry and spent the time honing my skills as an Audio Visual Technician.
Like a magnetic field, I was attracted back by the innovations in DJ Controllers and the shift in DJ software and hardware.
I saw two major new trends emerging
The controller technology had increased significantly and lowered the barrier to entry.
It is easier than ever to find great music and connect with artists.
There was also a massive need to reinvigorate the music scene in my local area.
And then the pandemic hit.
Most Touring DJs got wrecked because their ability to mix in a live public venue was eliminated overnight.
Some DJs turned to streaming to protect their cash flow, while others went into emergency mode.
The pandemic left many new DJs wondering if DJing is still relevant, or would we finally be overturned by Spotify playlists?
Sharing Music
Most DJs begin DJing because of a deep wish to play music, to help bring joy and happiness to as many people as possible. Especially in times like these, music can help ease the anxiety associated with the pandemic and make a person's day better - Marc Santaromana.
I would argue that DJing is more relevant today than it has ever been before.
As long as spreading music is essential, DJs will fill the gap by sharing and creating musical experiences.
Listening and selecting music for almost any environment, whether locked-down or locked-in.

Thinking Differently
Now is the best time to start your DJ journey.
Many bad actors, seedy characters and shady promoters have been weeded out to make way for the new generation of DJs, Producers and Promoters.
There now exists a void for new DJs to step in and fill the gap.
